Green Hydrogen Production & Electrolyser Development
Green Hydrogen Production & Electrolyser Development

Scaling green hydrogen to meet global decarbonisation targets requires power supply architectures that reconcile cost efficiency, grid stability, and industrial durability. This presentation explores how thyristor-based rectifiers — a mature technology with decades of success in heavy industries — are solving cost and grid-compliance challenges.

Using real-world electrolyser deployments, we analyse:
- CAPEX-OPEX Tradeoffs: with cost breakdowns for transformers, harmonic mitigation, and lifetime maintenance.
- Mitigating Power Quality Risks: meeting IEC 61000/IEEE 519 standards via multi-pulse configurations, active filtering, and hybrid thyristor-DC/DC designs.
- Real Case Study – a real-world example of an industrial electrolyser installation.

Attendees will gain actionable insights into:
- Designing cost-optimised power supplies for multi-megawatt electrolysers.
- Leveraging legacy industrial technologies to de-risk hydrogen infrastructure.
- Balancing efficiency and compliance in variable renewable energy (VRE) environments.
